Summer Solstice 2024
In the northern hemisphere, Thursday, June 20th was the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. That morning, I received a newsletter from Intuitive Tarot Reader and Psychic, Kate Van Horn, which included "rituals to connect with the light". One of the rituals consisted of watching the sunset. I decided to go to the park after work that evening. I found a spot on the lawn near a group of women wearing flower crowns and smudging the air with various incense. I found comfort in their presence. As I sat on the lawn watching the sunset, I went through the rest of the rituals.
The rituals included:
Walk barefoot outside – I removed my shoes and socks, and I walked around on the grass. At first, I was self-conscious thinking someone might look at me and think, “What is she doing?” but I let that thought go as quickly as it came.
Ask your tarot deck “how do I connect with my inner light?” – I had to wait until I was back home to consult my deck. Once I did, I pulled the Queen of Cups. “Creativity!” I said to myself. This card reminded me to connect with my inner light through creative expression and intuition. I left the card out until the next day, admiring and connecting to the Queen’s energy.
Visualize light pouring over your crown and through your energy body – I love this practice as a grounding technique. Since I was already barefoot and sitting on the grass, I closed my eyes and visualized the light passing through me.
Create a summer bucket list to make memories and celebrate summer – Using the notes app on my phone, I started a new note and jotted down anything that came to mind like rapid fire. The first thing I wrote down was, “Be held in the arms of a strong man, while lying on the grass, as we watch the sunset.” There was a couple seated across from me and their affection towards each other was inspiring. The last thing I wrote down was, “Embrace my feminine energy” with a sunflower emoji next to it. This was before I pulled the Queen of Cups card mentioned above.
During the first official weekend of summer, I danced, attended a pool party, wore a flowy dress, bought a sunflower plant, and found time to write again. These were some of the experiences I noted in my summer bucket list.
It was a rough winter, but things started looking up toward spring. I sense summer 2024 is going to be an amazing season!
